At 4 years old our daughter was in a world of her own. She could speak but couldn’t hold a simple conversation and relied on scripts to communicate with us. If she wanted milk she would say “Do you want milk?”. We didn’t know what was going on and worried about it constantly. We googled of course and read about assessments that cost a lot. We were very worried about what would happen when she started primary school.
By chance we saw an article about Cluas. We didn’t really think sound therapy would help but we liked the idea of the initial consultation where someone who works with children could hang out with her for a couple of hours. We didn’t want a report we just wanted to understand what was going on.
That’s exactly what happened. Ronan explained sensory processing disorder to us and how audio processing works. We asked a lot of questions. We were very skeptical. It seemed too good to be true. He was very patient.
The first time she put on the headphones she shouted “wow, this is amazing!”. She called it doing ‘DJ’. Scripts dramatically reduced after the first 2 weeks. She started trying to talk to us. Of course we wondered could it just be chance. Maybe things would have improved without the headphones. But then there were similar step changes after the other stages of sound therapy. Primary school started very well and only we really know that there was such a transformation in the last few months.
